Panthers down Dragons in Mid-Illini tri

PEKIN — The Washington Panthers traveled to Pekin for a triangular meet with the Pekin Dragons and East Peoria Raiders on Friday night.

The Panthers rolled the Dragons by a score of 57-18. Dack Punke defeated Brody Haynes via fall in 27 seconds in their 113-pound match.

In the 120-pound match, sophomore Tyler Delaware won by a majority decision over Blake Harris, 15-5.

Newcomer Dylan Thurston defeated Devin Poole by a technical fall in 2:20 for the Panthers.

Blaize Punke, Ryder Punke and Jace Punke all won their matches over the Dragons by fall.

Blaize Punke defeated a Pekin wrestler in 1:20 during their 138-pound match.

In the 160-pound match, Ryder Punke pinned Cameron Baillez in 1:20.

The final of the Punke brothers to get a win was Jace in the 195-pound match against a Pekin wrestler in 1:27.

State champion Jacob Warner successfully continued his title defense by defeating Pekin standout Alex Bleeker in a 13-6 decision.

Adam Robinson and William Hammer each won their matches with pins over the Dragons.

Robinson pinned Pekin junior Kyle Reagan in 1:39 during their 220-pound bout.

In the final match of the meet, Hammer defeated Gavin Seward by a 3-2 decision.

Victories for the Dragons came via forfeit in the 126-pound match.

Pekin’s Noah Justi also contributed points for the Dragons.

Justi pinned Washington’s Caleb Miller in 1:35.

The Panthers also took wins in the 106-pound match and the 152-pound match, both by way for forfeit.

Results for the matches between the Washington Panthers and East Peoria Raiders were not available.

Washington hosted a super-dual Saturday morning. As of press time ,results were not available.

The Panthers travel to Limestone Wednesday for a triangular agianst Canton.

The Panthers will compete at the Ironman Invite on Dec. 11-12 at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Over 20 teams from around the country are slated to particiapte in the invitational.
