Washington boys stay perfect


WASHINGTON — The Washington boys basketball team moved to a perfect 8-0, 4-0 with a 57-45 win over Dunlap on Friday night.

Senior Lou Griffth led the way for the Panthers with 21 points.

Washington came out firing, ending the first quarter with a 20-8 lead.

The Eagles (3-4, 2-2) did not let up. Dunlap outscored Washington in the second and third quarters, but the Panthers fell back onto the lead they built in the first quarter.

Reigning first team all-conference guard Devin Whitelow added 10 points for the Panthers.

Brett Williams is enjoying a breakout year after being thrusted into playing time. Williams scored seven points in the win over Dunlap.

Colton Sharp added eight points for the Panthers.

Clint Koehler scored 13 points for Dunlap.

Washington enters the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament as the No.1 overall seed.

The Panthers open the tournament at 8 p.m. Monday.

Washington sits atop the Mid-Illini Conference after it dispatched Metamora and Limestone on Dec. 11-12.
