Lady Panthers split games with U-High, Canton
The Washington Lady Panthers traveled to Normal U-High handed the Pioneers (5-1) their first loss with a 41-37 win Dec. 1.
Madi McCoy led the way for the Panthers ( 3-1, 0-1) with 12 points.
The Lady Panthers took a one point lead into the second half en route to a four-point victory.
Tiana Sherman added 10 points for the Panthers to go along with nine points from senior Hannah Heinz.
Washington withstood a 17 point perfomance from junior Raven Hughes. Jasmyne Lawrence added nine points for the Lady Pioneers.
On Friday, the Canton Little Giants (7-0) handed the Lady Panthers their first loss of the season, 50-33.
Again, McCoy led the way for Washington with a a team high-nine points for the in the loss.
Sydnie Wells and Brittany Murphy led the way for the Little Giants with 10 points each.
The Panthers finished the first quarter with a two-point lead before losing a grip on the rest of the game.
Canton outscored the Panthers 14-4 in the second quarter.
Washington failed to gather themselves at halftime and got outscored 21-9 in the third quarter.
Neither team scored many buckets in the final frame. Canton bested Washignton 6-3 in the fourth quarter.
Heinz tacked on eight points for the Panthers and Sherman added six points.
The Lady Panthers travel to Metamora for a Mid-Illini Conference showdown with the Redbirds at 7 p.m. Friday.
Coach Maggie Mose’s squad does not return home until Jan. 8 for a game against the Pekin Dragons.
