Morton defeats kickers, 3-0

The Washington girls soccer did not have any better luck at Coal Miners’ Park May 4.

After a 6-0 Mid-Illini Conference loss to Pekin April 13,  the Lady Panthers were beaten 5-0, this time at the Dragons’ home field.

Pekin scored three times in the first half, then added two second-half goals to win for the eighth time in the league.

The Washington goalkeeping combination of Jessica Auer and Olivia Schoch made double-figure saves.

Morton 3, WCHS 0

The Lady Panthers’ rough stretch continued Thursday with a home setback to the conference champions.

Washington fell to 4-5-2 in the M-I, but did a good job containing Morton’s high-powered offense.

Schoch made 15 saves for the Lady Panthers, who allowed just six goals this season to the Potters. That easily is the lowest total in the league against foes who played Morton twice.

Washington was 1-3-1 in the second half of conference play prior to going to East Peoria yesterday for the Raiders’ Senior Night.

Postseason: No. 3 seed Washington meets second-seeded Metamora at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Redbirds’ Class 2A regional semifinals.

The winner almost certainly will face No. 1 seed Morton at 7 p.m. May 21 for the regional championship.
