Girls pull out broom at Dunlap

The Washington girls soccer team topped Dunlap Thursday for a noteworthy achievement.

A 3-1 road win gave the Lady Panthers a Mid-Illini Conference sweep of the Eagles.

Hannah Norris put Washington on top with a goal assisted by Adriana Mata.

The Lady Panthers took a 2-0 lead into intermission as Tabea Spahn found the net in the 26th minute.

After Dunlap got within one, Mata returned the Washington advantage to two goals with about five minutes left.

Goalkeeper Jessica Auer made four saves as the Lady Panther improved to 4-3-2 in the league.

Postseason: Washington is a No. 3 seed in the Class 2A Metamora Regional.

The Lady Panthers will face second-seeded Metamora at 7 p.m. May 18 in the semifinals.

The pairing is a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal, which Washington won in overtime.

Top-seeded Morton and No. 4 seed East Peoria clash in the other semifinal.

The regional final is set for 7 p.m. May 21.
