WMS eighth graders first in Tip-Off

The Washington Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team won the annual St Patrick School Tip-Off Tournament Oct. 9, 10 and 12.
WMS won against St. Pat’s, 49-27. It was paced by Hayley Reneau with 16 points.
MaKayla Hartter added seven points and Abby Koerner six.
The Panthers outlasted a determined Central, 34-25, in the second round.
Heading up the scoring for WMS was Reneau with 12 points and Hartter with seven.
WMS, determined to bring home the first-place trophy, came out firing and paced themselves to a 46-13 victory over District 50.
The leading scorers were Koerner with 12 and Reneau with 10.
Hartter had eight points, and a trio of players chipped in four.
The Panthers look to improve on a fourth-place finish at the Illinois Elementary School Association state tournament as seventh graders.
