Netters’ experience reduced

A Washington Community High School girls tennis doubles team participated in a shortened Illinois High School Association state final Thursday.

Senior Brooke Schoenbeck and sophomore Chandler Duchaine completed one match in the Chicago suburbs.

The Lady Panthers lost in the first round to Elizabeth McGrail and Nicole Beck of Rockford Guilford, 6-2, 6-4.

Schoenbeck and Duchaine qualified for state with a third-place finish in the Richwoods Sectional.

Washington, directed by head coach Jim Witt, has garnered state representatives two seasons in a row after a singles appearance last year by Sara Ohlman.

State traditionally is a double-elimination format, but first-day rains forced the event indoors and reduced the tournament to single elimination.
