The Washington girls tennis team added to a sensational season Oct. 13.

An 8-1 road win at Galesburg gave the Lady Panthers a 14-2 record in duals this fall.

The girls went 10-0 in matches that did not count toward the Mid-Illini Conference standings.

Chandler Duchaine/Brooke Schoenbeck (6-2, 6-1) and Catrina Hollaway/ Michelle Marchini (6-1, 6-0) both registered easy two-set doubles wins.

Paige Marchini and Katie Vroman rallied for a 4-6, 6-0, 10-2 doubles victory.

In singles, Washington was on top in the first five positions.

Hollaway (6-2, 7-5), Duchaine (7-6 [7-3], 6-0), Schoenbeck (6-3, 6-2), Vroman (6-1, 6-0) and Michelle Marchini (6-2 6-1) all triumphed.

Richwoods Sectional

Washington will have a presence at the Illinois High School state final for the second year in a row.

The doubles tandem of Duchaine, a sophomore, and Schoenbeck, a senior, lost only one match over the weekend to finish third and advance past the sectional level.

After a first-round bye and a 6-0, 6-0 waltz, Duchaine and Schoenbeck produced a 6-1, 6-3 quarterfinal win Friday that locked up their state bid.

The Lady Panthers recovered from a three-set semifinal loss Saturday morning to post a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sarah Mooney and Maureen Cunningham of Richwoods in the third-place contest.

Washington was fourth as a team at the sectional with 15 points, just one behind Dunlap.

Metamora used a 27-point outing to win the crown by three over Richwoods.

It will be the first state appearance for Duchaine or Schoenbeck, who are coached by Jim Witt.

Sara Ohlman was 2-2 for Washington in 2008 in state singles.

State: Opening-round play began this morning in the Chicago suburbs.

Pairings were set to be released yesterday afternoon.
