Runners to return to Detweiller Park

In a tight outcome, Washington earned a split in a Mid-Illini Conference girls cross country double dual Oct. 7 at Dunlap.

The Lady Panthers tipped the host Eagles, 25-30, but lost to Pekin, 26-29, in a 3.96-mile race.

Carolyn Riedel led Washington with a third-place individual finish. Right behind her was teammate Rachael St. Clair.

Alyssa Johnson also was in the top 10 for the Lady Panthers with an eighth-place result.

Runnin’ Red Invitational

Washington was 14th Saturday at Black Partridge Park in a field of 21 teams.

Riedel was the Lady Panther leader for 2.94 miles with a 33rd-place outcome.

St. Clair (58th), Kathleen O’Brien (77th) and Amy Learned (88th) also were among the top-100 runners.

Washington’s point total was 362 after it also received a 106th-place showing from Kassedie Dismang.

With a mere 32 points, Palatine was the team champion.

Boys cross country

Dunlap and Pekin displayed their balance in an Oct. 7 meet the Eagles hosted.

Washington fell to Dunlap, 15-50, and Pekin, 17-44, in a double dual covering 2.96 miles.

No Panthers were part of the top 10 as the other two Mid-Illini foes shared that distinction.

Runnin’ Red Invitational

Washington was 20th Saturday, outperforming Woodruff, Central and Macomb at Black Partridge Park.

Andrew McGraw led the Panthers, who accumulated 549 points, with a 57th-place finish.

Four Washington runners — Nick Dalfonso, Cameron Sharp, Ben Misselhorn and Fletcher Summa — were between 115th and 140th places.

Normal U-High won the boys’ crown with 72 points.

Conference: The boys and girls compete at 4 p.m. Friday in the Mid-Illini meet at Detweiller Park hosted by Pekin.

Washington is seeking to improve on both sides from a year ago. The girls were sixth and the boys placed eighth in the conference.

East Peoria (girls) and Metamora (boys) are the defending champions.
