Lively sound: The Washington Community High School pep band performs this season in Torry Gymnasium.

Basketball fans from across the state will have an opportunity to listen to the highly-touted Washington Community High School pep band.

The Illinois High School Association selected WCHS as one of two “March Madness” bands for the boys Class 3A/4A state tournament at Carver Arena.

WCHS will perform Friday. Its day begins with a morning performance at the March Madness Experience in the Peoria Civic Center Exhibition Hall.

They will then move into Carver Arena and perform during pregame, timeouts, halftime and postgame for the four semifinal games.

The IHSA limits the pep band to only 40 musicians (including conductors). Therefore, the band that is actually performing will be composed primarily of juniors and seniors who were regular attendees at WCHS games and members of either the symphonic or concert winds bands.

A “bench” of 10 students also will attend and be rotated into the performances.
