Panthers rewarded for athletic prowess

It was a bountiful winter for Washington Community High School in terms of all-Mid-Illini Conference selections.

Six members of the wrestling and girls basketball teams were named to the first or second team, each for the first time.

Four Panthers wrestlers, none of which are seniors, were tabbed from a fourth-place team.

Sophomore Brandon Rice (125 pounds) and freshmen Dylan Reel (145) and Mason Wright (152) all were league champions and landed on the first team.

Dan Massengill (171), a sophomore, was a tournament runner-up and garnered second-team all-M-I status.

Two Washington girls basketball players were chosen from a squad that tied for fourth place.

Guard/forward Lexi Grayer, a junior, was a unanimous first-team pick.

Senior guard Sara Ohlman earned second-team merit for the Lady Panthers.

The boys basketball all-conference teams will be revealed next week.
