Schmidts compete in district meet

Brennan and Camden Schmidt, both of Washington, competed in the 2009 Illini District YMCA Swimming Championships last weekend at Normal Community High School.

Fifteen area teams took part in the swim meet for a chance to qualify in the upcoming 2009 Illinois/Missouri Area YMCA Swimming Championships.

Camden, 7, placed eighth in the 8-and-under 25-yard breaststroke finals in a time of :25.11.

He also competed in the 8-u 100 freestyle relay and earned second place with his teammates with a time of 1:17.97, which qualified them for state.    

Brennan, 11, swam the breaststroke in 39.91 seconds as part of the 11-12 200 medley relay with his teammates.

The relay earned a spot in the championships with a state time of 2:25.55, which landed it fourth during the finals.

Brennan’s last finals swim Sunday in the 11-12 200 free relay resulted in a fifth-place showing with a state qualifying time of 2:07.12 for the team.

Brennan and Camden will travel to the Illinois/Missouri Area YMCA Swimming Championships this weekend in DeKalb at the Kishwaukee YMCA.

The boys are the sons of Kristie and Eric Schmidt.
