Two Washington boys soccer players were chosen for Monday’s 4 KICKS/Sport Verein Senior All-Star Classic.

Panthers Bret Henderson and Matt Whitmer were members of the Mid-Illini Conference team that competed against the neighboring Mid-State 6 Conference at Peoria Stadium.

The game ended in a 2-2 draw with both teams scoring once in each half.

Henderson’s goal in the 15th minute, on an assist from Daniel Ruder of Morton, knotted the game at one.

The Mid-Illini, which also included Illini Bluffs and Illinois Valley Central high schools, holds a 4-3-3 advantage in the all-time series.

The M-S 6, which included Peoria Christian and Roanoke-Benson/Eureka high schools, was ahead 2-1 late in the second half before the M-I evened the match in the 89th minute.

The M-S 6 also took a first-half lead before the M-I responded six minutes later with a tally.

Besides the Washington contingent, there were six Morton players and four from Dunlap.

IVC, IB, Metamora, East Peoria, Limestone and Pekin all had two players tabbed.

Notre Dame and Richwoods landed seven players apiece on the M-S 6’s 22-player roster.

Pat Sell of IVC was the Peoria Area Soccer Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year.

The organization also recognized its six-member Hall of Fame Class for 2008.
