Washington places 13th at ICC course

The Washington girls cross country team outperformed eight other schools in the Class 3A East Peoria Sectional Saturday.

The Lady Panthers were 13th in a 2.95-mile race at Illinois Central College with 332 points.

Among the teams Washington was in front of in the season finale was Morton, which finished two spots higher than the Lady Panthers in the Mid-Illini Conference meet Oct. 17.

Carolyn Riedel paced Washington by collecting 47th place overall in a time of 19:43.

Three more runners were in the top 70 from the girls squad: Julia Williams (59th), Rachael St. Clair (63rd) and Alyssa Johnson (69th).

Breana Overly, in 102nd place overall, completed the Lady Panthers’ scoring.

Melissa Biggs and Amy Learned also competed for Washington.

East Peoria was the sectional champion for the fourth year in a row.

Notre Dame, Dixon, Metamora and Yorkville also advanced to state.

On the boys’ side, Andrew McGraw competed as an individual.

He was 108th at ICC out of 155 finishers in a time of 17:21.

First-place boys team Dixon, Normal U-High, Galesburg, Notre Dame and Yorkville all advanced to state.
