Four Washington Community High School baseball players were tabbed for the June 10-11 McDonald’s All-Star Classic.

Recent Panther graduate Hayden Shaver participated in the June 10 senior game at O’Brien Field.

Seniors-to-be Alex Wilson and Ben Worner and Marshall Escue, who will be a junior, all were picked for the June 11 underclass game.

The Mid-Illini Conference, for which the quartet played, enjoyed an 8-5 underclass victory over the rival Mid-State 6 Conference.

The M-S 6 claimed a 4-3 decision over the M-I in the senior contest.

The Mid-Illini underclassmen scored four runs in the first and fourth innings to win the event which is now in its 17th year.

Worner threw three spotless innings starting on the mound for the M-I. He fanned one and did not walk any.

The previous night, the M-S 6 nipped the M-I, 4-3, in the senior game.

The M-S 6 led 4-1 entering the seventh, then held on after the M-I scored twice it its final at-bat.

Dunlap and Morton did not have a representative in the senior game.

The McDonald’s All-Star Classic also featured small-school battles prior to the M-S 6/M-I matchups.

The East and West seniors tied June 10, 8-8, while the West was a 6-2 underclass winner June 11.

Among the high schools involved in the East-West games were Olympia and Illinois Valley Central, who faced off for the Illinois High School Association Class 2A baseball state title earlier in the month.

The four games are presented by the Greater Peoria Baseball Association and McDonald’s.

Proceeds from the event are donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
