One rough inning May 6 was enough to doom the Washington softball team.

The Lady Panthers lost to Mid-Illini Conference foe Limestone, 5-0, after the visitors scored four times in the third inning.

Charise Deatherage doubled for the only Washington extra-base hit of the afternoon at Jan Smith Field.

Lady Panther Alecia Lauss gave up six hits and seven walks in a complete game.

At 4-8, Washington moved into a fifth-place league tie with Canton entering yesterday’s action.

Deatherage was 3-for-4 for the visitors, and Sara Hamilton and Kate Stinson added two hits apiece.

Five different Lady Panthers — Dani Frye, Hamilton, Stinson, Deatherage and Montana Simmons — drove in runs.

Hamilton rapped a three-base hit, while Frye and Stinson doubled.

Lauss (5-16) won the game in the circle with five strikeouts and three walks. She surrendered just two hits.

Normal Community 11, WCHS 0 (6): The Lady Iron ended the game early May 9 with five runs in the sixth inning.

Washington (7-21) was limited to three hits, all singles, by two Normal pitchers.

Taylor Brace (1-3) took the loss. She gave up nine runs in 5 1/3 inning, but four were unearned.

Five Lady Iron batters had two hits, and the Nos. 5 and 6 hitters had three RBI apiece.
