Another great year for garden
The Washington Community Garden, located at 200 N. Wilmor between the fire station and Five Points Washington, recently ended its fifth year of production.
Our total harvest was a record breaking 5,203 pounds of produce!
Weekly, we sent the bountiful crop to WHIP, Peoria Rescue Mission, South Side Mission, Salvation Army or Friendship House.
We want to thank all of the local businesses, churches, the city of Washington and individual families who supported us by donating services, gardening supplies, a storage unit and financial gifts that enabled us to continue this project to help stop hunger.
We especially want to thank our dedicated volunteer gardeners who gave a part of their summer to help us help others.
They are: Bonnie Antal, Susie Brunner, Becky Eichenberger, Beth Fitzpatrick, Sue Freeberg, Vicki Gustafson, Suzanne Gustin, Bonnie and Mitch Junk and grandchildren, Natalie and Kate Kerr, Sandi Lampe, Ella Maxwell, Becky Moore, Ken Lehr and Bob Hotkevich.
We’ll be back in the community garden in 2009, celebrating our sixth year of helping feed people. Perhaps you would like to join our community project.
