Leonard Hesselein

Leonard W. Hesselein, 97, of Washington, died at 7:35 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria.

He was born April 20, 1912, in Worth Township to William and Ella Kamp Hesselein.

Among the survivors is his sister-in-law, Helen Hesselein of Washington; and one niece, Willamine Schuck of Washington. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Leonard was a mill operator for Caterpillar for 36 years, working in Building KK in East Peoria. In addition to Caterpillar, he also farmed for more than 40 years in the Washington area.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre.

He attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria and was a former member of Grace Bible Church in Washington.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Jerry Trecek will officiate. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial is in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Washington.
