Floyd Grogg

Floyd R. Grogg, 88, of Washington and Lake Placid, Fla., died at 11:15 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born April 27, 1921, in Kaskaskia to Floyd Roseman and Chloe Layton Grogg, he married Hazel Arning in Centralia April 13, 1941. She died in 1957 in Washington. He married Betty Cox Feb. 11, 1965, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are seven children, Dell (Gwen) Grogg and Phillip (Lisa) Grogg of Washington, Richard (Jennifer) Grogg of Tucson, Ariz., Hope (Rocky) Elbert of Metamora, David Grogg of Peoria, Kathryn Kempton of California and Susan (Jim) Smith of Peoria; one brother, Kenneth Grogg of Tuscon; three sisters; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre and on Okinawa.

Services are 11 a.m. today at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, with the Rev. John Hauck officiating. Visitation was Tuesday at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the U.S. Marine Corps and Tazewell Military Rites Team.
