Franklin Bennett

Franklin O. Bennett, 86, of Washington, died at 5:36 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at his home.

Born May 5, 1923, in Peoria to Frank T. and Esther (Roberts) Bennett, he married Martha Gibson July 30, 1948, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Helene (Harold) Whitaker of Washington; one son, Frank Bennett of Las Vegas; one niece, Debbie Holzhauer of Washington; three granddaughters; and many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

He served in the United States Navy and the United States Army as a Sergeant 1st Class in the Occupation Forces for seven years.

He retired as a truck driver from Consolidated Freightways after more than 20 years of service.

A graveside service was Monday at Hillcrest Memory Garden in Morton. The Rev. Bill White officiated. Tazewell Military Rites Team provided military honors.
