David E. McCrary Sr., 62, of Washington, died at 2:32 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

Born on March 31, 1946, in Peoria to John and Norma Glenn McCrary, he married Sandy Karges June 12, 1976, in Mackinaw. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons,  David (Paula Jo) McCrary Jr. of Bismarck, N.D., John (Tasha) McCrary of Washington; one daughter,  Brandy (Arlando) Cooper of Mackinaw; two step-daughters, Dawn Kiernan of Whitewater Wis., and Lesa Philips of Pekin; six grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Pritchett of Ethelsville Ala.; and two brothers, Raymond McCrary of Biscayne Park, Fla., and Robert (Carol) McCrary of Pekin.

He graduated from Limestone High School in 1964, and in that same year, joined the U.S. Navy, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam.  He specialized in electronics, having served in the radar room aboard the USS Ingersoll.

Upon leaving the Navy, David worked for 40 years as an electronic repairman in the central Illinois area.

He was a 25-year member of Liberty Baptist Church in Minier.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3 at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. The Rev. John Horner will officiate.

Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
