R. Laverne Eilers

R. Laverne Eilers, 91, of Washington, died at 7:40 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Born March 1, 1917, in Peoria to Fred H. and Elsie Butte Eilers, he married Marguerite J. Schumacher in Eureka Dec. 9, 1938.  She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Reynold  L. (Mary Lou) Eilers of Washington and Dennis A. (Rebecca) Eilers of Germantown Hills; one brother, Merle (Margaret) Eilers of Washington; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Glen.

He was a contractor in the Washington area for more than 27 years with Eilers Brothers Construction.

He was an active member of Avion Travel Club for 40 years and had served as past president and also past governor of the Illinois Chapter. 

He also was honored as a 70-year member of Local 183 Carpenters Union out of East Peoria. He also was a 1934 graduate of WCHS.

He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

Services were Saturday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Bates officiated. 

Burial was in Hillcrest Memory Gardens, south of Washington.

Visitation was Friday at Mason-White Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
