Karolyn E. Edwards, 59, of Washington died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago.

Born July 22, 1949 in Davenport, Iowa, to Willie and Elaine Malmanger Stine, she married Richard “Dick” T. Edwards Dec. 5, 1970, in Davenport.  He survives.

Also surviving are her mother, Elaine Stine of Davenport; three sons, Rich Edwards Jr. and Jeff Edwards, both of Washington; one daughter, Carol (Kurt) Smeltzer of Washington; and four grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Stine Jr.

She retired from Yeoman’s Distributing Co. in 1998 after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Some of her ambitions during the last 10 years include Project Linus of which she was Tri-County coordinator of Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties during the last two-and-a-half years. Her team gave out more than 3,000 blankets to comfort children in sickness and trauma.

She was also involved in support groups for the American Cancer Society. 

She was a member at New Life Christian Church in Morton. Some of her ministries include the Peoria Rescue Mission, Marriage Enrichment, Women’s Ministries, Stephen’s Ministries and several other volunteer organizations.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today. Visitation will be one-half hour prior to services at New Life Christian Church in Morton. The Rev. Dave Troyer will officiate.

A visitation was also Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Project Linus.
