EUREKA ­–  Thelma Irene Velling, 83, formerly of Washington and Hinsdale, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.

Born Dec. 5, 1924, in Bundy, Mont., to Alfred and Isabel Johnson Skogen, she married Arthur Charles Velling March 10, 1947, in Seattle. He died Oct. 20, 2001, in Peoria.

Also preceding her in death were one brother, Clark Leroy and one sister, Evelyn.

Surviving are two sons, Scott (Janet) Velling of East Peoria and Michael (Frances) Velling of Federal Way, Wash.; two daughters, Kristen (Richard) Jakosa of Naperville and Patrice (Bradley) Essig of Washington; two sisters, Margaret (Clifford) Smith of San Carlos, Calif., and Alida (Roy) Rieben of Clallam Bay, Wash.; one brother, Alfred (Mardene) Skogen of Ronan, Mont.; and six grandchildren.

She worked for many years as a registered nurse.

She was active in the community, holding leadership positions in Girl Scouting and Cub Scouting.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, where she was active in many ways, including serving as a Eucharistic minister.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. The Rev. Joseph Donton will officiate.

Visitation was Tuesday at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington.

A private burial of cremains will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Metamora.
