Easter Smith

WASHINGTON – Easter R. Smith, 87, died at 4:55 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at Washington Christian Village.

Born March 27, 1921, in Simpson to Luis and Lena Blaylock Reeves, she married Benjamin H. Smith Dec. 8, 1940, in Washington. He died Aug. 20, 2001, in Washington.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are one son, Clifford (Sally) Smith of Washington; one daughter, Cathie (Roy) Maguire of Edelstein; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She worked at Kreske’s Department Store in Peoria and Roehms Department Store in Washington many years ago.

A member of Washington Christian Church, she served as a Deaconess, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Loyal Circle Class.

She was also a graduate of Washington Community High School in the Class of 1938.

She was active in many organizations in the Washington area including, Washington Women’s Club where she served as an officer, the Illinois Valley Unit of Parliamentarians, as well as the National and Illinois Association of the Parliamentarians. 

She also was a member of American Legion Post 100 Auxiliary, Washington Mother’s Club, the Peoria/Tazewell Hiking Club, a 50-year member of the Tazewell County Home Extension with perfect attendance.

She also served has an election judge and was active many years ago in the Church bowling league at Plaza Lanes.

Services were April 23 at Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Brian C. Smith, a grandson, officiated.

Burial was in Glendale Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either the Bell Choir of Crossroads United Methodist Church, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois or W.D. Boyce Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
