John Picton Sr.

John T. Picton Sr., 85, died at 10:12 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at Washington Christian Village in Washington.

Born Dec. 9, 1922, in St. David to Clyde Morell and Isabelle McIntosh Picton, he married Jean Peters on Jan. 10, 1948, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son John T. (Nancy) Picton Jr. of Washington; two daughters, Debra (Tom) Schneider of Marquette Heights and Ellen (Dave) Robertson of Saybrook; two brothers, William Picton of Bartonville and Edward (Norma) Picton of East Peoria; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a World War II P-47 Thunderbolt Pilot, receiving a Distinguished Flying Cross, an Air Medal with seven Oakleaf Clusters and three Bronze Stars.

He worked as a telephone equipment installer and supervisor for Western Electric, where he retired in 1980 after more than 35 years of service.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington and also was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the 366th Fighter Association.

Services were Feb. 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. The Rev. Mark Miller officiated.
