Jack Nieukirk Sr.

Jack A. Nieukirk Sr., 88, died at 12:16 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Oct. 29, 1919, in Peoria to Henry and Jessie Belote Nieukirk, he married Mildred “Midge” Samms March 24, 1940. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jack (Gaye) Nieukirk Jr. of Chillicothe, Steven (Alice) Nieukirk and Randy (Scotti) Nieukirk, both of Washington; two daughters, Sandra Fisher and Connie (Chuck) Bradle, both of Washington; three sisters, Delores Hoffman of Morton, Darlene Johnson,of Roodhouse and Geraldine Kiesow of Joliet; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson; one son-in-law, Raymond L. Fisher; four brothers, Louis Nieukirk, Rolla Nieukirk, Ted Nieukirk and Robert Nieukirk; and one sister, June Nieukirk Ehle.

He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II, where he was awarded two Bronze Battle Stars.

He retired as a truck driver from Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of Teamsters Local 627.He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9016 and the American Legion Post 100, both in Washington.

Services were Feb. 12 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. The Rev. Gary Bass officiated.

Burial was in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, where military rites were accorded.
