A local boy was injured in an all terrain vehicle accident Saturday on Cruger Road.

According to the Washington Police Department incident report, the call came in about 9:38 a.m., saying a 12-year-old boy flipped the ATV in a ditch.

He was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria by Washington paramedics.

Mike Brownfield, a friend of the family, said Jacob Charlton, a Washington seventh grader, was believed to be paralyzed from the chest down after an accident while out riding an ATV.

Brownfield said according to the last thing he heard, Charlton is believed to have suffered a bruised spinal cord.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department is reported to be investigating the accident.

However, at press time, Brownfield and deputies could not be reached for comment.
