Damaged: The upstairs windows of the apartments at 2473 Washington Road in Sunnyland show evidence of a fire early Friday morning.

Members of the Washington Fire Department joined Northern Tazewell and East Peoria firefighters on a mutual aid call in Sunnyland early Friday morning.

A call came into the East Peoria Fire Department dispatch at about 5 a.m., Brian Woolard, a fire investigator with EPFD said.

The blaze at 2473 Washington Road in Sunnyland was discovered within the first five to 10 minutes, Woolard said, adding that it was put out quickly.

The building, owned by Tony Jordan Sr., was once Jordan Siding and has been converted into apartments after the business closed.

Witnesses said there were flames coming out of the second floor windows.

The fire started in an upstairs apartment, Woolard said, adding that the building was unoccupied at the time.

“The call was discovered by an area business owner who was going into work,” Woolward said.

The cause is still unknown and Woolard said he is still investigating. “I still have people I need to talk to.”

He said he estimates the damage to be about $50,000.

The State Fire Marshal’s office is providing assistance where needed, Woolard added.
