Probationary firefighter Tyler Johnson checks for signs of a fire on the roof of a house on Devonshire Thursday evening. The Washington Fire Department was called out to the house after police officer Jason Ernst called in a possible fire. Ernst was in the area on another call when he heard the smoke detector and smelled something burning. Fire Chief Mike Vaughn said it was a false alarm. The smoke detector battery was low and a nearby resident was burning yard waste.
