Preliminary cause of death announced for Pekin girl

Tazewell County State's Attorney Stewart Umholtz announced that the preliminary cause of death of Breann Scheiner as asphyxiation and alcohol intoxication and alcohol poisoning.

The final results are pending toxicology tests.

Scheiner, 17, of Pekin was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m. Sunday at 207 Sapp St., Pekin.

A preliminary investigation indicates that Paul J. Klawer, 20, gave Robert Tomlinson, 51, $20 to purchase a bottle of vodka. Tomlison gave the vodka to Klawer. The two men, along with Scheiner and two other underaged people drank the alcohol.

Authorities charged Tomlinson and Klawer with unlawful delivery of alcohol to a minor, a Class 4 felony, in connection with Scheiner's death.

Additional charges may be forthcoming.
