Chillicothe restaurant shares success with Washington

After three years of success in Chillicothe, a popular Mexican restaurant is expanding into Tazewell County.

Tequila’s Mexican Bar & Grill is scheduled to open in the Freedom Centre next to Wal-Mart Supercenter in Washington by the end of this month.

Ami Munoz, who owns and operates Tequila’s with her husband, Hector, said the Washington location will be double the size of the Chillicothe restaurant at 5,400 square feet.

“It’s the same family atmosphere, but we have more space to work with, and are adding new dishes to the menu you won’t see anywhere else,” Munoz said.

Munoz added they will start taking applications Sept. 18, and plan to have a live mariachi band and authentic Mexican decor, much like the restaurant that sits on North Fourth Street in Chillicothe.

Munoz said they have been working on the details of opening the new location since last spring, and work on building the kitchen and bathrooms started in July.

“The people of Washington have been so supportive in helping us get this off the ground so soon,” Munoz added.

That sense of community might even lead Munoz to move her family to Washington, as well.

“We’re considering buying a house there now just because we have family there and it’s a nice, growing town,” Munoz remarked.

Munoz said she also hopes to establish the same bonds she has with her Chillicothe customers at the Washington location.

“We have lots of regular customers we know by name and are really lucky to have grown relationships with them over the last three years,” she said.
