Two Journal Star-area wrestling teams were able to brave the elements and capture tournament titles last weekend.

Washington, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, won the 18-team Illini Classic hosted by Lincoln-Way West in New Lenox. Joey Cape (120 pounds), Brody Norman (126), Zeke Hulet (132), Jared Head (160) and Jace Punke (195) earned individual championships for the Panthers. And Abe Hinrichsen (106) and Gabe Robison (220) added third-place finishes for Washington, which scored 230 points — 38.5 more than 3A host Lincoln-Way West.

St. Bede claimed the title of the 15-team Brockman Invitational in Kewanee behind individual championships from Dominic Bima (113), Charles Korey (126) and Peter Sampson (285).

Third-place Knoxville was led by Outstanding Upper Weight Wrestler Ruben Cantu, who had two pins before a 10-5 victory in the 160-pound title bout. Other area individual champs were Quinton Fultz of Farmington (120), Connor Booker of Putnam County/Hall (138) and Zack Dean of Knoxville (152).
