PEORIA — Peoria Rivermen captain Dave Pszenyczny was named SPHL Defenseman of the Year on Monday.

The veteran of 755 games, including playoffs, had a career-year in his 12th pro season, with 43 assists and 50 points -- both career-highs.

Those assists and points totals were tied for the fourth-most by a defenseman in SPHL history.

Pszenyczny also posted a +24 rating, second-best among all SPHL blueliners.

He led all defensemen in the league in points, assists, power play assists (13) and game-winning goals (three).

The 33-year-old has played in five pro leagues during his long career, including the top three levels of the minor-leagues in the AHL, ECHL and SPHL.

He'll lead the Rivermen into a best-of-3 SPHL Semifinals series against Knoxville that starts with Game 1 on Wednesday.

Pszenyczny is the second Rivermen defenseman in three seasons to win the league honor. Brandon Greenside was SPHL Defenseman of the Year while with Peoria in 2015-16.
