Francis Okoro made four key free throws in the final minute Friday night to lift Normal West to a 52-48 victory over Springfield Lanphier in the championship of the 53rd Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.

Okoro finished the night with 19 points and 12 rebounds on the way to earning the tournament's Jeff Stoner Most Valuable Player award.

“This is a great tournament, but it was the whole team that did it,” said Okoro, whose team was beaten by Lanphier 64-19 in the title game last season.

Okoro, who had 65 points and 37 rebounds in the tournament, was especially strong in the opening minutes of the second half, with a couple key moves on the low block, as Normal West (10-2) opened a 31-19 lead.

Cardell McGee had 13 points on 4-of-17 shooting for the previously unbeaten Lions (11-1).

LAKE ZURICH 42, PEKIN 40: Peter DiCerbo scored a game-high 14 points and had six rebounds as the Bears held off the host Dragons for a fifth-place finish. Justin Taphorn led a group of six Pekin scorers with a eight points.

RICHWOODS 50, WASHINGTON 38: Dallas Bryson dropped in 24 points on 8-for-18 shooting in guiding the Knights to a seventh-place finish. J.J. Guedet had 14 points to pace the Panthers.

LIMESTONE 49, MOUNT CARMEL 42: Jadon Payton sank five 3-pointers on the way to scoring a game-high 19 points for the Rockets, who placed fifth in the tournament's consolation bracket with the win. Mike Dunne added a dozen points for Limestone, which outscored Mount Carmel 13-7 in the fourth quarter.
