Benjamin Robert Bell, 41, of Carefree, Arizona, passed away on April 10, 2017, following a brief and courageous battle with Crohn’s – related cancer. His parents and sister were present with him.

Benjamin was born March 8, 1976, in Peoria, Ill., first child of Robert and Rebecca (Yokel) Bell.  His is survived by his parents, of Washington, Ill.; his sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and Andrew Strohm of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and his much-loved nieces and nephew, Annika, Ethan, Elsie and Naomi Strohm. 

He grew up in the Crossroads United Methodist Church Family. Benjamin graduated from District 52 schools and Washington Community High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Beloit College (WI) and his Master’s Degree from University College London. He had a life-long interest in coins, working as a numismatist in Lancaster, Penn.; followed by a business partnership in Middleton, Wis.; and finally working briefly in Carefree, Ariz.

Benjamin enjoyed music, teaching himself to play various stringed instruments. He was strongly interested in history, travel, and learning other languages to communicate with the local people. He developed a great appreciation of nature.

As a caring and giving person, Benjamin had friends among all age groups and a genuine concern for their needs. Memorials may be given to your local Habitat for Humanity or the Washington Illinois Public Library.

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington at 10 a.m. on June 26, 2017.
