Eight athletes from the Morton Bethel Lutheran School boys track and field team competed at the Lutheran Sports Association of Illinois grade school state meet.
Bethel Lutheran scored points in each of the nine events it entered -- 86 points in all -- and the Flames won their second consecutive state title.
Ian McLauchlan won the triple jump and the Flames’ 4x400 relay team of Alex Mihelic, Blake Shoemaker, Justin DeFrees and McLaughlan also won.
Zach Alt, Grant Selke, Andrew McLaughlan and Eli Mulvey also competed for the Flames. Each scored points.
Bethel Lutheran broke six school records at the meet including all four relays.
“It was an honor to coach this talented, courageous, selfless and determined group of young men,” said Coach Heather McLaughlan.
Eight girls from Bethel Lutheran competed in six events at the meet. The girls scored 19 points and finished in a tie for eighth place.
Sophie Krueger, Maddie Behnke, Ava Alt, Jonae Mansfield, Evelyn Mulvey, Danielle Baumann, Anna Roberts and Allayna Hart competed for the Flames.
The meet was held at Concordia University-Chicago in River Forest.
