The Tazewell County Clerk’s office has announced that they will host the first annual Tazewell County Clerk’s Conference later this year.

Scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 2 at the Tazewell County Emergency Management Agency in Tremont, the mission of the conference is to increase collaboration and information sharing between the Tazewell County Clerk staff, township clerks and municipal clerks, a news release said.

The conference will be informational, allowing each division to update each other on any procedural or policy changes, according to the news release.

Election and information security will be at the forefront of this year’s meeting. The keynote address — something that will happen each year the event happens — will be given by a member of the Illinois Cybersecurity Task Force.

Additional speakers will include Amy Kelly of the Illinois State Board of Elections, Neil Herron, Cybersecurity Information Sharing Program Manager, and Alana Sorrentino of the Statewide Terrorism and Intelligence Center.

"As we move towards the 2020 Presidential Elections, and understanding the high level of misunderstanding that exists in the public concerning the cybersecurity incidents in Illinois during the 2016 Presidential Elections, I want this transparent presentation based on solid factual information to reassure the trust in our elections process and systems" said Tazewell County Clerk John C. Ackerman in a news release.
