According to an August 28, 2017, CNBC article, one in 18 older adults fall prey to financial abuse each year.
In an effort to arm area seniors with information to ward off such crimes, Citizens Equity First Credit Union (CEFCU) in partnership with local police departments, SeniorNet, and the Center for Prevention of Abuse will host a SeniorCents Financial Abuse Prevention seminar on July 30.
The seminar will be held at 11 a.m. at the CEFCU Peoria branch at 5401 W. Dirksen Parkway. Topics will include financial exploitation by a family member: phones scams like a relative in distress or a fine or bill needing to be paid; computer scams such as working from home job offers, romance scams; and computer virus scams.
This seminar is free and open to the community and a light lunch will be served. For more information or to RSVP, call 309-633-3767 by July 22.
