PEKIN — Tazewell County residents now have a simpler way to see how some of their money is being spent.

County Treasurer Mary Burress has launched an "open checkbook" site that provides weekly updates on bills that have been paid.

"It's all about transparency ... what are we doing with your tax dollars," she said.

The details on the ledger are separated into weekly files. Each file details every check written, to whom it was written, the amount and the check number.

The information is available both under the County News header on the right hand of the county homepage,, and on the page for Burress' office.

Peoria County launched an open checkbook platform earlier this decade after lengthy discussion.
