Welcome to the 200 Club, Denee Menzione.
The East Peoria softball coach earned her 200th career victory Thursday when the Raiders defeated Metamora 7-4 in a Mid-Illini Conference game.
Menzione is in her eighth season as East Peoria’s coach. With the win over Metamora, her career record improved to an incredible 200-51 since 2012, a .797 winning percentage.
Sixteen are her 51 losses were racked up last season, after East Peoria lost a talented senior class that carried the Raiders to the Class 3A state championship game and a runner-up finish in 2017.
Here are Menzione’s records at East Peoria through the years:
2012 — 32-3
2013 — 23-4
2014 — 32-5
2015 — 24-4
2016 — 26-8
2017 — 31-5
2018 — 17-16
2019 — 15-6
Menzione is humbled by the coaching achievement.
“Honestly, it kind of leaves me speechless,” she said. “It’s a great milestone, but I seriously deserve no credit. The girls from the past and present are the ones who deserve all the credit.
“They work so hard in the off-season in the weight room and with extra hitting and practice ... this is all on them. I get to sit back and watch them play.”
Menzione said she’s been honored to coach not only great athletes at East Peoria, but more importantly, great people.
“Each one of the girls has a bright future and they make me and our community so proud every day. I’m honored to be part of their journey,” she said.
