PEORIA — The radio group that includes some of Peoria's top-rated radio stations has been sold.
Wisconsin-based Midwest Communications will pay $21.6 million for Alpha Media’s six Peoria stations.
The stations involved are WPBG-FM 93.3 ("The Drive”), WNGY-FM 102.3 (Hip-Hop), WXCL-FM 104.9 ("The Wolf"), WSWT-FM 106.9 ("The Mix"), WIRL-AM/FM 1290/102.7 (“Superhits”), WMBD-AM/FM 1470/100.3 (News/Talk), and WPBG-HD3 95.9 ("The Sports Nut").
WSWT, WXCL, WPBG and WMBD held the top four spots in Nielsen ratings of area stations last fall.
Duke Wright, president and CEO of Midwest Communications, which owns 75 radio stations in seven states, said he was initially impressed with Peoria and its radio stations after visiting his son who had enrolled at Bradley University.
"We look forward to working together with the Peoria staff to continue to provide excellent radio service to Peoria and the surrounding area,” said Wright.
