It was a long but successful night Tuesday for the Pekin wrestling team.
The Dragons defeated Lincoln 49-29 and host Champaign Central 42-39 in duals.
The win over Lincoln was particularly sweet.
“Lincoln beat us last season in a dual and at their tournament last month,” said Pekin coach John Jacobs.
Pekin (8-10) had six pins Tuesday against Lincoln.
They came from Demarcus Watson (106), Will Carson (113), Ryan Haynes (126), Drake Hawkins (132), Tyler Haynes (160) and Logan Bailliez (170). Watson’s 40-second pin was the fastest.
The Dragons also had six pins against Champaign Central.
They came from Ryan Haynes, Hawkins, Chase Roepenack (138), Devin Tovrea (145), Karson Lamb (182) and Jared Dowell (195). Roepenack’s 58-second pin was the fastest.
“Will Carson had a nice pin against Lincoln. He’s starting to come to life,” Jacobs said. “And Chase (Roepenack) and Devin (Tovrea) are wrestling well.”
Jacobs looked at the big picture after the Dragons returned home from the trip to Champaign.
“For us to be so close to having a .500 record in duals at this point of the season with such a young team is great,” he said.
