PEORIA — Five catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles in two separate incidents reported to the Peoria Police Department on Wednesday.
At 8:22 a.m., police were called to Arnold and Sons Plumbing, 1621 W. Candletree Drive, where the owner reported that a catalytic converter had been stolen off one of the business work trucks overnight. It was the same vehicle that had had a converter stolen on Nov. 5. Surveillance cameras showed a person with a hoodie covering their face walking on the property from the north at 3:05 a.m. Audio revealed the sound of a reciprocating saw running, then the suspect is seen running back north at 3:11 a.m., the report said.
After the officer left, the business owner discovered a second truck stripped of its converter. There were four converters taken in about six minutes. The loss of man hours because of the downed trucks was several thousand dollars, far exceeding the cost of fixing the vehicles, the report said.
In a second report taken later Wednesday morning, a man reported that a catalytic converter had been stripped from his motor home, which had been parked at Cube Storage, 9219 N. Industrial Road, for about three weeks. The converter had also been sawed off, the report said.
