Dishes, silverware, microwave, blender (for health issue), and small dressers: Needed for a low-income single mother and her two children. Call Toby at FamilyCore, 676-2400.

School supplies including backpacks, pencils, pens, erasers, geometry sets, dictionaries, thesauruses, scissors, pencil cases, folders, notebooks, paper, binders and more: Needed for children in The Salvation Army Shelter. Wal-Mart gift cards also accepted. Call Lindsey at the Salvation Army, 655-7220.

Gas stove, refrigerator, girl's clothing (size 12 months), and boy's clothing (size 10/12): Needed for low-income families in need. Call Pamela or Betty at PCCEO Early Head Start, 495-5254, Ext. 273.

Full or queen-size bed (complete): Needed for a low-income new mother who does not have a bed and has experienced recent hardship. Call Grant at Advanced Medical Transport, 999-4057.

Helping Hands is a service provided by the Journal Star, with support of the Heart of Illinois 2-1-1 Information and Referral line (a collaboration between the Heart of Illinois United Way and Advanced Medical Transport of Central Illinois).

If you know of a need that can't be met by conventional means, call 211 (or 999-4029) to be referred for help. All requests screened and verified by Wednesday morning will be published the following Monday.
