Mason Minkel of Pekin reached the semifinals in championship flight in the Peoria Park District Junior Match Play tournament at Kellogg Golf Course.

Minkel, the top seed, defeated Grant Hammer 2 and 1 Wednesday in the quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals Thursday.

Other semifinalists besides Minkel were No. 4 seed Colten Kahler, No. 6 seed Austin Segrist and No. 7 seed Jack Hammerton, who beat No. 2 seed Cole Cox 3 and 2 in the quarterfinals.

Minkel faced Kahler and Segrist took on Hammerton in the semifinals.

In A flight, the top four seeds were still in contention following the quarterfinals.

No. 1 seed Ben Byrkit, who had a bye in Tuesday’s first round, advanced with a 3 and 2 victory over Brock Brown.

Byrkit faced fourth-seeded Luke Riggenbach in the first semifinal. Second-seeded Logan Nelson met third-seeded Brady Gruden in the other match.

Championship matches in both flights are scheduled for Friday at Newman Golf Course.
