A 54-year-old man was flown by helicopter to a Peoria hospital late Wednesday afternoon after a single-vehicle rollover accident on Illinois Route 29 south of Pekin.

Tazewell County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jeff Lower said the victim, whose identity remained unreleased Wednesday night, was not breathing when two county deputies arrived at the site moments after the accident at about 5 p.m.

"They revived him," Lower said. "CPR brought him back."

The victim, the only one involved in the accident, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to OSF Healthcare St. Francis Medical Center. His condition was not available Wednesday night.

Lower said he understood the vehicle was southbound in the 13000 block of Route 29, between Pekin and South Pekin, when, for unknown reasons, it left the highway.

The highway remained closed in both directions for more than an hour after the accident to investigate its cause.

Further details were expected to be released Thursday.
