1930 - 2016

Dwain C. Schulze Sr., 86, of North Pekin, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Born Feb. 15, 1930, in Breman to John and Flora Bierman Schulze, he married Joretta Rodewald April 9, 1950, in Chester, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Dwain C. (Marsha) Schulze Jr. of Dunlap, Michael S. Schulze of North Pekin and Mark A. (Fenlan) Schulze of Edwards; five grandchildren, Andrew D. Schulze, Zachary A. Schulze, Michael C. Schulze, Aidan K. Schulze and Melissa Stauffer; two great-grandchildren, Payton and Emily Stauffer; and one sister, Janet Castellano of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David Lee on Aug. 17, 1966, in Pekin; and one sister, Evelyn.

Dwain worked 38 years at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, retiring in 1987. He served 20 years as a Trustee for the Village of North Pekin and was a member of the North Pekin Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He had also been a coach for Little League Baseball.

Dwain enjoyed camping and had been a “snowbird,” traveling to Florida for the winter months.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, at his church. The Rev. Jeff Anderson will officiate.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

Additional visitation will be from 9:45 until 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
