Pekin District 108 Assistant Superintendent Leonard Ealey said parents are happy that the district no longer requires them to come to the schools to register their children.
This is the first year the district has used online registration.
“We’ve been looking at it for years, probably three years, trying to do some more things online for parents, give them access and save them a trip,” said Ealey. “For a while, the way our system was set up, if you had a student who was attending Washington (Junior High School), another child attending one of the junior highs and then children in the primaries, you end up making three trips across town to register your kids.”
The district has been working with the Skyward System software. The district bought the software three years ago, but wanted to work slowly to implement the various components. Prior to this year, the district uses Skyward for student records, employee payroll and so on. Skyward costs the district $83,000 annually.
The main savings to the district with online registration will be mailing and materials costs for packets for students and parents to register. Moving to online registration will save the district approximately $8,000 in postage, labeling, paper and printing, and two full employee days used to prepare packets for registration.
Parents with a username and password for Skyward Parent Access can start registration at any time.
Non-registered parents may get a username and password by emailing the district at www.pekin.net/ or calling the district at 477-4756.
Computers are available in all of the schools for parents without internet access.
