1924 - 2016

Lucille Rienelda Ryan Livengood, 91, of Delavan, passed away at 9:27 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Morton Villa in Morton.

She was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Jerseyville, the oldest daughter of James Aylward “Rouche” and Aline Dougherty Ryan. The family moved to Delavan in March of 1942. She married William F. Livengood Sept. 28, 1947, and together they raised four children.

Ninie, as she was known to friends and family, graduated from high school salutatorian in 1943.

Surviving are four children, Mick (Deb) Livengood of Estero, Fla., Lana (Don) Classen of Pekin, Dana (Tom) Brewster of Lincoln and Jana Long of Delavan; nine grandchildren, Joel Livengood Fox, Jeff, Jerod and Jenai Classen Lofton, Alison Rumler-Gomez and Ryan Brewster, Taylor, Daniel and Andrew Long; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Frances (Lyle) Flexsenhar of Green Valley; and one brother, Gerald (Joyce) Ryan of McPherson, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May of 1979; granddaughter, Dawn Livengood Fox in August of 2012; and her two beloved sisters, Josephine “Jo” (Ernest) Bluhm in 2009 and Maureen “Lish” Ryan in 2015.

Ninie served as an election judge for 28 years, the Nutrition Site for 21 years, TOPS IL for 30 years, and as a bookkeeper for 11 years.

A lover of the written word and familial roots, she penned her “story” and took great interest in the Ryan genealogy, devoting many hours of preparation and documentation for her children’s books and annual Ryan Reunion. One of her great pleasures was a 71 year-long correspondence with a pen pal in Cebu, Philippines. She visited the homeland of Ireland in 2006, enjoyed two trips to Washington, D.C., and many memorable journeys “home” to Jerseyville with her sisters.

Cremation has been accorded.

To honor her wishes, there will be no funeral.

A visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Delavan.

Private family burial will be in Prairie Rest Cemetery at a later time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delavan Elementary School, c/o Michael Livengood, 20221 Estero Gardens Circle, Unit 106, Estero, FL 33928 in her honor and in memory of her granddaughter, Dawn Livengood Fox.
